President Ruto has advised the police not to kill those vandalising police stations, torching businesses or looting but shoot them in the legs.
Speaking for the first time since the chaotic Saba Saba protests, the President said, such ‘characters’ should be taught a lesson by making sure they are taken to court after treatment.
”Mtu ambaye anachukua moto anaenda kuchoma biashara ya mtu, anaenda kuchoma mali ya watu wengine, mtu kama huyo apigwe risasi miguu, aende hospitali akienda kortini. Wasimuue lakini wapige miguu ivunjike” the President said.
While at it, President Ruto cautioned the police officers against shooting innocent Kenyans but rather focus on those he called ‘criminals’ vandalizing other people’s businesses.
”Mimi ninataka kuwaambia polisi wetu, wasipige mwananchi risasi kumuua lakini mhalifu ambaye amekuja kuharibu biashara ya mtu mwingine, ashughulikiwe,” he stated
The President who was visibly outraged by the events that have been going on in the country in recent weeks especially during protests, gave a tough warning to those who he called ”sponsors of violence.”
”Kuna watu wanafikiri kwamba wataendesha fujo Kenya hii…wameharibu mali na biashara ya wananchi nao ni viongozi wanachochea hayo maneno wanalipa vijana wanawaambia enda choma mali ya yule enda choma biashaya ya yule. Wale wote ambayo watapatikana watachukuliwa hatua. Na viongozi wo, We are coming after you. You cannot sponsor violence in the Republic of Kenya and expect to go scot-free” he president said.
In another tough warning President Ruto said ”those who attack Kenyans, police officers, security installations and businesses are terrorists. Such criminal acts are a declaration of war.”
Speaking in Dagoretti North, Nairobi, when he assessed construction progress at the 540 housing units’ project at Kilimani Police Station, Ruto said ”We will not allow our country to be destroyed by retrogressive elements that are seeking shortcuts to rise to power. Enough is enough!”
The president swore to protect Kenyans and their properties usings all means possible. ”Hii mambo ya kuchoma biashara ya watu na kuharimu mali, itakoma”
He has cautioned the opposition against any plans to overthrow the government, urging them to wait until 2027, saying they will not ascend to power through shortcuts..
”Mimi ninataka kuwaambia kama wako na mpango si tukutane 2027, njia ya mkato hapa katikati hakuna!”
The President’s remarks come after the deadly Saba Saba protests, during which opposition leaders called for his resignation.
According to the Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC), at least 31 people have been confirmed dead, over 100 injured, and 2 reported missing.
