Anti-Narcotics detectives in Mombasa have arrested 54-year-old Michael Chacha along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway in Jomvu after intercepting a Nissan matatu, registration number KDK 208D.
The operation also led to seizure of cannabis sativa, Tanzanian currency amounting to Tsh5,035,000, and Kenyan cash totaling Ksh4,960.
According to a DCI statement, the officers were acting on intelligence, ” acting on a tip-off, the sleuths intercepted a Nissan matatu, registration number KDK 208D, at Jomvu area. Their instincts proved spot-on,” read part of the statement.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three bags belonging to the suspect. Inside the bags, officers uncovered 40 sachets of cannabis sativa hidden among personal belongings, alongside the pile of Tanzanian banknotes and the Kenyan cash.



“Further search of the bags unearthed 40 sachets of cannabis sativa. Also recovered in one of the bags is Ksh4,960 and the pile of Tanzanian currency,” DCI added.
Michael Chacha is currently in custody as investigations continue into the origin and intended destination of the narcotics and the foreign currency haul.
