A tragic incident has rocked Lurambi area in Kakamega County after the body of a 17-year-old girl was discovered in a rented house, with police treating the case as a suspected murder.

The girl, believed to be of Ugandan nationality, was reportedly killed by her boyfriend, also Ugandan, who is said to have fled the scene shortly after the incident.

The couple had rented the room just a day prior to the girl’s death, raising concerns among locals who were shocked by the sudden turn of events.

According to area residents, the two appeared to have moved in discreetly, and not much was known about them before the incident came to light.

The girl’s mother, who resides in Uganda, reportedly grew suspicious after hearing unverified reports that the boyfriend had taken his own life after fleeing across the border. Unable to reach her daughter, she contacted relatives living in Kakamega to check on her. It was through them that she received the devastating confirmation of her daughter’s death.

Police have since launched investigations into the case and are working with authorities across the border in efforts to track down the suspect. The circumstances surrounding the girl’s death remain unclear, pending the outcome of a post-mortem examination and further forensic investigations.

The case has sparked outrage and renewed calls for heightened vigilance in rental properties, especially where minors or undocumented persons may be involved.
