Arsenal are on the verge of completing the signing of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, with only a few minor details left to finalize. The Swedish forward has made it clear he wants to join Arsenal, having turned down lucrative offers from Manchester United and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Gyokeres has since refused to report for pre-season training at Sporting, accusing the club’s president of breaking a gentleman’s agreement that would have allowed him to leave for under €60 million. The situation has sparked friction between the player and the Sporting leadership. Despite Sporting’s earlier €100 million valuation, a deal now appears close at a significantly reduced price.

The two clubs are working on a €63 million package to be paid in installments. Sporting are pushing for €10 million in guaranteed add-ons, while Arsenal are proposing €7 million in easier triggers and a further €3 million in more difficult performance-based clauses.

Manager Mikel Arteta is keen to finalize his main transfer business before the club’s departure for the Singapore pre-season tour on July 19th. Arsenal will play AC Milan on Wednesday, July 23rd, followed by a clash with Newcastle United on Sunday, July 27th.

Gyokeres would join a busy summer intake that includes Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke, Cristian Mosquera, and a new contract for rising star Ethan Nwaneri.

Arsenal are also reportedly targeting Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, with interest in Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes still on the table. The Brazilian winger is said to prefer a move to Arsenal should he leave the Spanish giants.

This summer rebuild underscores Arsenal’s ambition ahead of a pivotal season for Arteta, who has seen his side narrowly miss out on the Premier League title in each of the last three years.
