A primary school watchman in Teso North of Busia County who lured a girl aged 12 years before defiling her when she had come to fetch water will spend 30 years in prison after the Malaba Law Court found him guilty.

The court was told that the elderly man Peter Ekaranit while manning Kajei primary school in Teso North Sub-county took the advantage of the girl who had come to fetch water and defiled her before she was caught in the very act.

He was arrested on 12/12/2024 when the imcident was reported at Malaba police station and later on arraigned in court for prosecution.

The Malaba Law Court Resident Magistrate Hon. A. Zowade Ogange said  Mr. Ekarinit will serve 30 years in prison for crimes related to  defiling a minor and infecting her with Sexually Transmitted Disease, STIs.

Hon. Ogange noted that the sentence is enough to serve a staunch warning to others with similar habits in the society.

“Since he is a person who works as a watchman, he always interacts with a number of people including young girls and boys, so releasing him is like putting the society in danger because as much as he knew his health status, he went a head and defiled the innocent girl,” said Hon. Ogange.

She added,  “I therefore sentence him to serve 30 years in prison running from 16/12/2024 the time he was remanded.”

This ruling comes barely two weeks after 4 family members from Simbachai in Teso Central Sub-county  were each  sentenced to 3 years of Community Service imprisonment after being found guilty of conspiracy to defeat justice in the defilement case through Kangaroo Court.

The four Jacob Ekwenye, Charles Emuluk, Partrick Erogat and Levis Erogat were found guilty for holding a kangaroo court to determine matters on defilement where they raised funds to procure an abortion for the 17 year old girl in efforts to locally settle the  matter.
