The St. Patrick’s Iten, a boys National school located in Keiyo North Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County, has been abruptly closed following a student strike that erupted overnight, resulting in the destruction of school property whose value is yet to be determined.

According to the school’s principal, Mr. Peter Rotich, the unrest was sparked by a section of students who reportedly opposed sitting for their end-of-term examinations. These students are said to have incited their peers to engage in the destruction of school property.
Mr. Rotich confirmed that the students have been sent home and are expected to report back on Friday this week as investigations continue to assess the extent of the damage and determine the underlying causes of the unrest.

The principal has, however, assured parents and guardians that all students are safe and that no injuries were reported during the incident.
St. Patrick’s Iten is a prestigious national school with an enrolment of approximately 1,500 students. Founded in 1961 by the Patrician Brothers from Ireland, the school is globally renowned for nurturing athletic talent. Among its most distinguished alumni are David Rudisha, the 800m world champion, former 3000m world record holder Wilson Kipketer, and Isaac Songok, among many other celebrated athletes.

Located in the heart of Iten town, the school has consistently performed well in national examinations and continues to uphold its reputation in both academics and athletics.
