The Democratic Congress Party (DCP) has announced plans to field candidates in all upcoming by-elections as part of its strategy to strengthen its national political presence.

In a press conference Thursday, Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala announced Adan Mohamed has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the Banisa parliamentary seat, while lawyer Edgar Busiega will fly the DCP flag in Malava Constituency.

Malala said he is confident that the DCP party will win at least 50% of all the vacant seats in the coming by-elections.

According to Malala Mohamed is the most popular candidate right now urging people to vote for him.

Speaking after he was declared the DCP candidate, Mohamed promised to bring the seat home, ”i want to promise you that Banisa will be the first by election that DCP will win,” he said.

He said he defected from ODM after ‘listening to the ground.’ At the same time he has criticized leaders from the North Eastern region for what he termed is ‘killing’ the United Democratic Movement (UDM

Mohamed who vied for the Banisa parliamentary seat in 2022 under the ODM ticket came in second after the late Kulow Maalim Hassan who vied under UDA. Hassan died 28 March 2023  following an accident in Nairobi.

The legislator succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident in which he said to have been hit by a boda boda rider in South C.

The party’s move signals its intention to expand political influence and increase representation in key national institutions.
