A family in Kiandutu slums in Thika, Kiambu County is seeking justice after their kin was allegedly severely burnt while detained in a hospital.
According to the family, 35-year-old Patrick Kinyanjui, was admitted at Thika Level Five Hospital a month ago, where he underwent successful surgery but was detained after he was unable to clear the hospital bill.
Hospital sources say, Kinyanjui reportedly tried to escape by climbing a face, when a hospital cleaner allegedly caught him. In a tragic turn of events, it is said that another staff member is said to have poured an acidic substance into his body causing severe burns; from the neck down to his waist.

The family is now calling on the Criminal Investigations to act swiftly and investigate the matter. The family also wants the hospital to take full responsibility for the actions of it’s staff, it also wants full access to CCTV footage.
”Kuchomwa kwake kulipatikana aje na hakuwa amekujwa na hiyo ugonjwa ya kuchomwa, hiyo ndio tunataka kujua,” said one of his relatives.
Think Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi has confirmed the incident saying investigations have already commenced.
