Steve Abdukareem Munyakho, the Kenyan national who has been on death row in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is free.

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Korir Sing’oei announced through his X account that Munyakho was set free as at 10 am Tuesday July 22 pursuant to the full satisfaction of judicial decree.

Sing’oei said Kenya’s mission in Riyadh confirmed that Munyakho performed his Umra (minor pilgrimage) upon release.

According to the PS the government will give more information on the matter latter ”We shall provide further details regarding his arrival in the country,” said the PS

The PS also commended all those who offered their support towards securing this outcome.

The execution of Munyakho, was set for November 26, 2024, in Saudi Arabia, but was postponed for a year after negotiations between the Kenya Mission in Riyadh, Saudi Authorities, and the widow of the deceased.

Munyakho has had on death row in Saudi Arabia for over a decade after being convicted of killing a Yemeni national, Abdul Halim Mujahid Makrad Saleh.

Abdul was stabbed and later died in the hospital, while Munyakho sustained injuries.

After a trial, Munyakho was found guilty of manslaughter in 2013 and handed a five-year prison sentence.
