The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of a section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa County, for a period of six months .
In a post shared on Tuesday, July 22, KURA said the closure aims to facilitate major construction works to address persistent flooding and drainage issues that have heavily affected the area during rainy seasons.
This major road project is scheduled to commence on Friday, August 1, 2025, and will run through to Friday, January 30, 2026.
These works are part of a broader effort to improve urban mobility and sustainability in Mombasa.
KURA added that the closure will impact a key stretch of Links Road, which serves residents, businesses, and commuters in Nyali and its surrounding areas.
KURA has provided a traffic management plan for alternative routes with motorists being urged to follow traffic rules and obey all traffic guidance to minimize inconvenience.
In addition, police officers and traffic marshals will be stationed at strategic points to assist with traffic flow and ensure safety.
As the agency responsible for urban roads, KURA oversees paved and unpaved roads across Kenyan cities, playing a key role in urban connectivity and socio-economic development.
The region has long suffered from seasonal flooding, making the road dangerous for motorists and pedestrians, with incidents of accidents and damage to vehicles.
Although KURA is leading the effort, resolving flood issues requires cooperation with the Mombasa County Government, as drainage management is under their jurisdiction.
Motorists are advised to drive carefully near construction zones, remain attentive to road signs, and use recommended alternative roads to avoid unnecessary delays.
KURA and Mombasa County officials have vowed to engage with stakeholders and update the public as the project continues.
