A 13-member independent committee appointed to investigate allegations of organ trafficking at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret has officially submitted its report to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

The committee chaired by Prof. Elizabeth Bukusi, a Senior Principal Clinical Research Scientist at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and Professor at the University of Washington the committee was constituted via Gazette Notice No. 78 of 23rd April 2025 and mandated to complete its work within three months.

CS Duale commended the committee for delivering its 313-page report within the stipulated timeframe. The Ministry’s technical teams are currently reviewing the report, which is expected to inform major policy decisions and reforms in Kenya’s tissue and organ transplant services.

The report contains comprehensive findings and recommendations aimed at strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing transparency, and preventing malpractice in transplant services.

CS Duale has pledged to implement the recommendations in full to safeguard ethical standards and patient safety in the country’s health sector.

In April this year the Ministry of Health suspended kidney transplant services at Mediheal Hospital and redirected patients to eight other licensed facilities, including Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
