Would you believe a spoon could change how your food tastes, without adding a single grain of salt?
Let’s be honest: most low-sodium foods aren’t that great, which makes it difficult for most people to make changes to lower blood pressure and fend off heart disease.
However, the Japan-made Kirin Electric Salt Spoon, which is among the new tech at CES, might be the solution to that problem.
The spoon, which can give your food a salty taste without having to add sodium, became one of the standout products at CES this year and secured the spot for the best weird tech on CES awards list.
The device sends electricity from the spoon to your tongue to give you the sensation of saltiness.
You might be wondering, is it really safe to put an electric spoon on your tongue? After all, electricity and taste buds don’t usually go hand in hand…
Interestingly, the spoon uses a weak electric current which is passed through the spoon, creating a salty taste on the tongue.
The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon comes in two pieces: the spoon and the detachable handle, which houses all the tech pieces.
The handle has menu buttons for changing the four saltiness levels. Blue (solid) for mild saltiness, flashing blue for medium intensity, yellow (solid) for strong saltiness, and flashing yellow for maximum saltiness.
Our bodies need sodium to survive, but too much leads to health risks. This is why CES created this spoon.
Would you give it a try?
