For the second time in less than five months, Chemamul Boys High School in Belgut Constituency, Kericho County, has been rocked by student unrest, resulting in the destruction of classrooms, food items such as rice and sugar, and personal belongings.
The latest strike occurred barely two weeks after the school had reopened following an indefinite closure that stemmed from a previous strike. The reasons behind both incidents remain unclear, with school authorities yet to issue a comprehensive statement.
Tension remained high as worried parents thronged the school to assess the extent of the damage and check on their children’s wellbeing.
However, many were left angry and frustrated after being denied access at the school gate by security guard. Some parents accused the administration of being unresponsive and secretive, raising concerns about student safety and school leadership.
This wave of recurrent unrest has prompted fresh calls for investigations into the underlying issues affecting the institution, with many stakeholders demanding urgent intervention from education officials and the Ministry of Education to restore stability.
