Nakuru Girls High School has been closed indefinitely following a student rampage.
According to the school Principal Rose Menjo property was destroyed as students broke into examination room and destroyed exams.
The unrest was reportedly triggered by fears and anxieties surrounding upcoming end-of-term exams.
In a statement to parents on Wednesday, Menjo said during the chaos, students reportedly broke into the examination and evaluation room, destroying all end-of-term examination papers prepared for all classes.
Several window panes were also shattered.
“The extent of the damages will be assessed by the State Department of Public Works today, July 23, 2025. The situation in the school has been contained and all the students are safe,” she said.
She further announced the immediate closure of the institution:
“The school closes today, July 23, 2025 at 8am till further communication. Please make arrangements to facilitate your daughter’s travel,” she said.
The closure of Nakuru Girls’ High School is the latest in a growing list of student unrest incidents disrupting learning.
In Bomet County, Kaplong Girls High School was closed on Sunday, July 20, under similar circumstances. The school’s principal later confirmed that the protests were triggered by serious concerns among students, who were reportedly disturbed by allegations of inappropriate conduct involving some members of the teaching staff.
Meanwhile, in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Tambach Boys High School was also forced to close after students staged a coordinated protest at around 3:00 am.
Early this month Lari Boys High School in Kiambu was closed indefinitely after students allegedly set the school on fire l. The administration block and classrooms were destroyed, leaving only the dormitories intact. The unrest reportedly began after students were denied musical instruments.
