President William Ruto has gladly announced a major step in fulfilling promises he makes to Kenyans.
Speaking during an Easter service at Ntulele, Narok County, on Sunday, 20th April, 2025, President William Ruto highly spoke of the recently launched E-Procurement system, a promise he says he made to Kenyans during his previous State of Nation address.
According to him, the Electronic Government Procurement (E-GP) system launched on April, 8,2025 is meant to ensure transparency and accountability among public officials.
He highlights conflict of interest and corruption that has been in existence as a major motivation to introduce the online tendering portal.
“In my address to the Nation, I made a commitment. I said all procurements beginning April this year are going to be undertaken on a E-platform. We’re going to have E-procurement so that there is transparency in public services so that we know that we’ve gotten the best price, the most competitive price, the best person and we know who it is. I’m happy to say that E-procurement that we’ve been waiting for for years has started this April as I promised,” the Head of State gladly stated.
Speaking on the new system, Treasury CS John Mbadi noted that the system will save the country a whooping Ksh. 50B, deal with cartels and curb conflict of interest which has mostly dominated procurement done by Government officials.
Mbadi further noted that the saved amount will be redirected to critical sectors, including education, health and infrastructure.
“There will be no more monkey business that we have had before where people pluck procurement papers of other companies so that they can be disqualified on technicalities. You will be required to tender online, the bid will be done online, and the opening of the tender will also be online in the presence of all bidders,” Mbadi candidly stated.
