He states that the Pope willingly served not only the Church but also humanity and his Maker.

President Ruto further pointed out Pope’s art of compassion celebrating his service to the vulnerable in the society.

“This is a big loss to the Catholic faithful and the Christian world. Pope Francis will be remembered for a life dedicated to serving the Lord, the Church, and humanity. He exemplified servant leadership through his humility, his unwavering commitment to inclusivity and justice, and his deep compassion for the poor and the vulnerable,” President Ruto partly highlights.

The Head of State went ahead to acknowledge Pope’s strong ethical and moral convictions which he asserts inspired millions across the world, regardless of their faith or background.

Other Kenyan leaders who have euologized departed Pope include Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

According to Sifuna, he describes Pope as a leader who embraced even sinners recognizing marriages like his considered unholy in the Luhya community.

“Pope Francis is easily my favorite. A proper “sinner’s” Pope .See, according to Catholic doctrine, marriages like mine under Luhyia customary law are considered “unholy” unions. Sometimes they wont even baptize your kids till you “regularize”. This is the Pope who said it was OK for priests to extend blessings to sinners like me. May he Rest in Peace,”Sifuna wrote.

Pope Francis died on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta.
