The Kenya Meteorological Department has notified the country of forthcoming heavy rainfall.
“Rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country,” reads the Metereological Department’s opening statement in a notice posted on their X account.
In the prediction valid between Tuesday 22nd April 2025 and 28th April, 2025, the weather forecasting body states that heavy rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, including Nairobi, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Southeastern Lowlands, Central and South Rift Valley, and Northeastern Kenya.
This means counties such as Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, and Bomet located in the Lake Victoria basin and Western Kenya should prepare for great rains this week.
Central region counties such as Nyeri, Nyandarua, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Laikipia, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Nairobi among others should also brace for heavy rains for the next seven days.
Other counties included in the list are Baringo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, and Narok from the South Rift Valley with Marsabit, Isiolo, and Wajir forming part of North Eastern Kenya.
Further, according to the weatherman, average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya and isolated parts of Western Kenya.
Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley and around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
