Body of a 48-year-old man who is a police officer serving in a police station in Kisumu county has been recovered from the Moiben river in Kapsiliot village, Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Confirming the incident, Elgeyo Marakwet police commander, Peter Mulinge, said that the body of Justin Kirui was seen floating on the banks of the Moiben river and citizens reported the incident to the police last night.

According to the commander, it is believed that the officer fell into the river while he was returning home from visiting a relative in Kapsiliot village.

Mulinge stated that the deceased is suspected to have been drunk and lost balance while trying to cross the wooden bridge in the area.

Upon examination of the body, blood oozing from the nose and a fresh cut on the head was noticed.

There were rocks below the wooden bridge which might have caused head injury resulting from the falling impact.

The body was moved to the Iten County Referral Morgue pending further investigations.
