Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has strongly denied claims that he insulted the Kisii community by associating them with witchcraft during his recent visit to the region.
In a heartfelt statement through his Facebook page issued Monday , Jalang’o said he was “deeply hurt” by the way his words had been misrepresented, insisting he holds the Kisii people in the highest regard.
“It pains me to hear that anyone would think I would ever insult or look down upon the Kisii community. That is simply not who I am,” Jalang’o said.
The controversy erupted after a videon of the MP circulated on social media alleging that he had claimed the Kisii community practices witchcraft, accusations he now says are completely false and taken out of context.
He described the Kisii people as friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family, highlighting years of working together.
Part of Jalang’o’s statement read, “I have worked alongside them, shared meals with them, and celebrated with them. I would never allow profiling or disrespect to come from my mouth or my heart.”
Jalang’o urged the public to watch the full video of his remarks to understand the true context, warning against allowing misinformation to divide communities.
He said, “Let us not let falsehoods sow division between people who have always stood together,” he appealed. “I value and respect the Kisii community deeply, today and always.”
The MP’s clarification comes as public reactions easpecially from the Kisii people continue to grow, with some expressing anger over the alleged comments.
