The government has made serious progress in the investigations following the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said besides the main suspects in the murder being arrested security officers have launched a crackdown on other collaborators.

Murkomen on Wednesday said investigations have linked some of the slain Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were’s close associates to the legislator’s murder, disclosing that top security chiefs will soon update the nation on the ongoing investigations

“We have made very significant progress in arresting the perpetrators and their collaborators, and it will shock you to note that this was a heinous crime done in a cavalier manner, involving people who ordinarily should have taken good care of him in his interest,” Murkomen said.

He said: “The government guarantees the safety of all Kenyans. Those perpetrators and collaborators will all be apprehended and will be severely punished to deter those with similar intentions from future crimes.”

He lauded the swift action by the security agencies in apprehending the culprits, saying it demonstrated the advanced level of intelligence, technology, and public collaboration.

He said with improved security systems, technology, and evidence analysis, the officers have quickly narrowed down on the suspects who are helping with the probe to get the masterminds.

“These people were quickly picked and it sends a signal to anybody planning or intending to harm any Kenyan,” stated the CS, cautioning any Kenyan imagining they can get away with crime.

He stressed, “We are committed to ensuring Kenyans are safe. Our focus is not on a certain class of citizens but everyone.”

The CS noted that the slain MP was gunned down under the protection of his bodyguard, which he termed unfortunate.

Earlier in the day, police said they arrested two more suspects in the murder probe.

In a statement the National Police Service said, Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, alias Abdul Rashid, and Dennis Sewe Munyasi led the investigators to Odhiambo’s house upon their arrest, where detectives found firearms.
