A wave of panic has spread across Nyakach North following a violent livestock theft incident that left one person dead and several animals stolen. Authorities have since managed to recover most of the stolen livestock as investigations continue.
The incident occurred in Jimo, within Nyakach North Division, where armed cattle rustlers fatally attacked a local resident before making away with four cows. According to Orina Dawin, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Upper Nyakach, the suspects are believed to have originated from neighboring Kericho County, specifically the Soin Sigowet area.
“These criminals came from Soin Sigowet, and we urge residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to bring them to justice,” said Dawin.
In response to the attack, a security team led by Dawin has successfully recovered three of the stolen cows, which had been hidden in the Kamaitha and Kamagon bush. Authorities are calling on local residents to assist in tracking down the remaining cow and four missing goats.
“We have already recovered three cows. Now, we are actively searching for the last one along with four stolen goats,” confirmed a police officer involved in the rescue operation.
The victim of the brutal attack has been identified as Mourice Otieno Pete. He was struck down with a bow and arrow and later hacked with a machete. His body has since been placed at Bethlehem Mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.

Local leaders are urging residents to report any suspicious activities and work closely with law enforcement to curb cattle rustling, a crime that has long troubled the region.
Authorities continue their search for the remaining livestock while seeking justice for the slain victim. The community remains on high alert as efforts intensify to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
