A key suspect believed to be the gunman in the assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were has been apprehended by detectives. Isaac Kuria, alias “Kush,” was arrested in Isebania, near the Kenyan border with Tanzania.

Authorities stated that Kuria was allegedly attempting to flee the country when he was captured. Investigations suggest that he is the individual who carried out the fatal shooting of the MP on Nairobi’s Valley Road. Following the crime, Kuria is believed to have undertaken a calculated escape route spanning several counties in an attempt to evade capture.

Sources close to the investigation reveal that Kuria has suspected links to criminal organizations operating within Nairobi. It is alleged that he traveled to the city center on the day MP Were was murdered with the specific intent of assassinating him. Investigators claim Kuria trailed the legislator’s movements before fatally shooting him in traffic.

Following the shooting, Kuria reportedly fled to Mihango, where he allegedly disposed of the weapon used in the murder. This weapon has since been recovered by police. His escape route then involved traveling by motorbike to Narok before taking public transport to Isebania. Authorities believe he was in communication with a relative in Tanzania, coordinating his attempt to cross the border.

Detectives, who had been monitoring communications involving Kuria and other suspects already in custody, tracked him down and made the arrest at a local lodging in Isebania. Another individual found in his company was also detained.

Both suspects have since been transferred to Nairobi and are scheduled to appear in court at the JKIA Law Courts on Monday.

This latest arrest brings the total number of individuals in police custody in connection with the murder of MP Were to eleven. Among those previously detained are the late MP’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi, his driver, Walter Owino, and William Imoli, who is suspected of playing a central role in the planning and financing of the assassination.

Other individuals in custody include businessman and politician Phillip Aroko and Ebel Ochieng, a Director at the Lake Basin Development Authority both alleged to be financiers, as well as Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI has affirmed that efforts to apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the planning and execution of the murder are ongoing. Investigators are also analyzing financial transactions linked to the suspects in an attempt to uncover the motive behind the assassination of the Kasipul legislator.

Police believe that the killing of Charles Ong’ondo Were was a politically motivated hit that was carefully planned.
