Boyd Were, son of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were, has officially announced his intention to contest in the upcoming by-election to succeed his father.

In a statement he posted on his social media accounts on Friday, May 16, Boyd expressed his commitment to continuing the legacy of development and community service that his father began before his tragic death.

“I step forward with humility and purpose to continue the development work my father started,” Boyd said. “His vision for a transformed Kasipul lives on through me. I am determined to see through every initiative he began and ensure no project is left unfinished.”

Should he be elected, Boyd pledged to prioritize the areas his father passionately championed, like education, youth empowerment, and economic growth.

“The Milele na Milele agenda will continue,” he assured. “The students who benefited from my father’s sponsorship will remain supported. To the widows he stood by, I will carry on his compassion. And to the youth he mentored, I stand not only as your leader but as your peer.”

Boyd called on the people of Kasipul to unite behind his bid, promising to walk the journey of transformation together with them.

“Let us move forward united; one people, one vision, one future. The dream lives on, and together, we will build a better, inclusive Kasipul for generations to come,” he said.

Boyd’s declaration follows growing calls from ODM leaders urging the party to grant him a direct nomination. During the burial of the late Ong’ondo Were, several leaders voiced their support for Boyd, citing his capability and readiness to pick up the mantle from his father.

The date for the Kasipul by-election is yet to be announced. Ong’ondo Were was brutally shot in a suspected targeted attack on April 30. Over twelve suspects are in custody for the late Mp’s death.
