The country is facing a growing crisis of forged academic and professional certificates, with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealing it has handled 549 such cases since 2022.
EACC CEO Abdi Mahamud said 134 investigations have been completed, with 85 files forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Thirty-three cases are currently pending in court.
So far, 20 cases have been concluded, leading to 13 convictions and 7 acquittals.
Mahmud made the revelations during the Ethics and Integrity Conference held in Nairobi under the theme “Enhancing the Integrity of Academic and Professional Qualifications in Kenya.”
