Garissa’s Jarajila Ward Member of County Assembly, Noor Sheikh, an issued a public apology following a disturbing incident at Albeik Hotel that saw him chase customers while brandishing a knife an act captured on CCTV and widely shared online.

In a statement addressing the incident, Sheikh expressed remorse for his actions, stating that his behavior was not premeditated and had been provoked by a confrontation moments earlier in the restaurant’s parking lot.

“I sincerely apologise to the people of Garissa and to the patrons who were present. My intention was not to harm anyone. I acted in self-defence after I was threatened,” Sheikh explained.

According to the MCA, the situation escalated from a heated exchange with two individuals outside the hotel to a chaotic scene inside, where he was seen storming the premises with a knife, prompting panic among customers.

Despite the alarming footage, Sheikh defended his character, citing his 27-year service in the military and emphasizing his commitment to discipline and integrity throughout his public life.

“I have always upheld discipline, both in service and in leadership,” he added.

Garissa police have launched an investigation into the incident. Area Police Commander Samuel Boit confirmed that Sheikh has recorded a statement and that detectives have retrieved CCTV footage and gathered witness testimonies.

“Investigations are at an advanced stage,” Boit stated, noting that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

As residents await the outcome, some see Sheikh’s apology as a step toward accountability, though questions remain about the appropriateness of his response and its implications for public conduct by elected leaders.
