Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johanna Ng’eno while in a women empowerment program in Kisii county has appealed to Kenyans to exercise patience and give President William Ruto’s administration more time beyond the almost 3 years the current government has been in power to deliver on its promises
Ng’eno argues that evaluating Kenya Kwanza’s government on a two and a half years period is premature especially for a government elected on a five-year term likening the expectations being placed on President Ruto to testing a student prematurely.
“Kwa nini tunataka Rais William Ruto afanye mtihani wa KCSE, ilhali bado hajafika Form 4? Wakenya tumpe Ruto, na kiongozi yeyote yule, nafasi ya miaka 5 kabla ya kuangalia walichokifanya,”he said.
Ng’eno’s remarks come amid growing public dissatisfaction over governance, rising corruption, and alleged extrajudicial killings, Albert Ojwang case being the latest of cases of police brutality after his death was linked to police officer.
Kenyans led majorly by youths and human rights groups have raised concerns on the government demanding accountability on a variety of issues. Most of them have been left unsatisfied with the government’s response hence prompting unrest and a number of demonstrations as witnessed lately in Nairobi CBD
While MP Ng’eno’s call for patience may resonate with government loyalists and moderates, the same can’t be said with majority of its critics who argue that accountability and responsible governance should not wait until the end of a political term.
The government now faces a tough test of rebuilding confidence due to the waning public trust and pressure or risk deeper dissatisfaction as the 2027 general election draws nearer.
