John Githui popularly known for his role as Ras in one of Kenya’s top family show Mother-in-law is now speaking out on how he transitioned from being a screen sweetheart to working in a carwash.

Ras says he freely left the screen after working with the Mother-in-Law production house for a long while. “It was my choice and what I am doing now is my choice.” hestated.

Githui says after looking and reflecting on his path as an actor he reached a point that he decided to push himself off the comfort zone and try venture into something else aside from acting and therefore left the show.

He said that reflecting on his time on the show made him realize he was regressing rather than progressing.

Being a born artist when leaving the show ,Ras did not have any plans of being on another show but he “left as an artist and still stayed as an artist.”

He left to pursue business and engaged in environmental conservation projects, particularly tree planting, which he is passionate about.

Some of the challenges that he faced especially from friends, family and the Kenyan audience once he quit the show is trying to explain why he left Mother-in-Law.

He says that one of his biggest problem in the Kenyan art industry is gluttony in the sense that artists are mishandled and poorly paid by Kenyan production houses.

“Art is big, but in order for it to be defined there must be policies. This policies must be turned into law to now govern artists..” John aka Ras says.

”Artists are burying themselves in alcohol leading to desperation due to societal pressure of being a star.” Ras laments.

Ras says in the coming years he might go back to the screens asking his fans to be on the lookout.
