As tension raises particularly in the capital Nairobi as GenZ plan to hold demonstrations to commemorate last years June 25th protests against the proposed 2024 Finance Bill, leaders led by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, have warned the young people against causing mayhem in the country at a time when it is on the recovery path.

Speaking in Kijauri, Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County where he graced a Women Empowerment meeting targeting women choirs sponsored by Nyamira County MP Jerusha Momanyi, Speaker Wetang’ula cautioned, “Anyone who dares to tamper with our peace, let it be known we shall defend it with every ounce of energy we have. Because in our country, peace has no alternative.”

The leaders took a swipe at Opposition leaning politicians they said were using the young people to fuel animosity within the political space.

“His maneno tunaskia ya Wednesday, ya kusema kwamba kuna watt wanatanga mikutano ya kukuwa na vita, sisi kama jamii ya omogusii, tunapenda kuchapa kazi, vijana wenzangu nawaomba mskubali kutumika vibaya.” Emphasized nominated MP Irene Mayaka.

“Don’t be drawn into political issues that are not yours,” said Speaker Wetang’ula. “Focus on your own country and your own challenges.Don’t hate people you don’t even know, They may have done you no wrong, and yet you carry burdens that are not yours. We must rise above borrowed hatred and remain focused on building our lives.”

His sentiments were shared by various leaders who had accompanied him who expressed concern that young people were being used to settle political scores.

“Kwendeni huko, you must respect the Kenyan Constitution and the Ke Ian people, hamtaki vita? Ice kitu wamepanga next week hook Nairobi, hatutaki vita. Tumechoka kabisa, hata vijana wamesema wamechoka kutumika,” Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro stated.

“Sisi kama yatu wa Nairobi hattaki vita, hatutaki uchochezi, tunataka amani. Hatutaki watu wengine walete kisiranindani ya Nairobi, yule yeyote atakuja akuje na Amani,” stated Peter Orero (KIbra).

Taking a cue from criticism leveled against impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua where he insinuated that the country will experience yet another dark past in the upcoming general election, the leaders warmed against toying around with the price of war using reckless utterances.

“There is one thing we must never forget the events of 2007, when politics was turned into a dangerous game, even here in Borabu, there was unrest.People fought, lives were lost, and we were forced to sit down at Serena Hotel to negotiate a way forward. We agreed then to bring balance, cohesion, and healing to our nation.” Said WEtang’ula.

“We are the only hope for IGAD, for the region, we should not allow a few elements to cause strife because of their selfish reasons.” Added Mogotion MP, Reuben Kiborek.

As calls for decisive action to be taken on police officers said to have violated the law and the rights of protesters get louder, leaders termed it unfair the entire branding of the police service as rogue due to a few elements.

“We cannot use an incident of one policeman to condemn the entire force,” stated the Speaker.

For Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno, his was a cry for Kenyans aggrieved by Police officers in other parts of the country, saying justice must not been seen to favor only certain regions.

“Selective justice and community profiling is wrong, police have only concentrated in Nairobi, yet police have killed people in Angata and no arrests have been made.
He said.

On the issue of development, Speaker Wetang’ula hailed the empowerment of women, youth, and special interest groups as essential pillars of inclusive national progress.

“Empowering women, youth, and vulnerable groups must remain at the center of our development agenda. No one should be left behind,” he declared.

In his wider call for unity, Speaker Wetang’ula added

“We must condemn tribalism and promote national cohesion. Kenya belongs to all of us. Let’s build a peaceful, united nation for generations to come.”

The Speaker was joined by a strong delegation of leaders, including Majority Whip Hon. Sylvanus Osoro, Hon. Johana Ng’eno (Emurua Dikirr), Hon. Japheth Nyakundi (Kitutu Chache North), Hon. Dorice Donya (Kisii County MP), Hon. Irine Mayaka (Nominated MP), Hon. Peter Orero (Kibra), Hon. Stephen Mogaka (West Mugirango), Hon. Fatuma Mohamed (Migori County MP), Hon. Martin Pepela (Webuye East), Hon. Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio), Hon. Zaheer Jhanda (Nyaribari Chache), Hon. Marwa Kitayama (Kuria East), Hon. Linet Toto (Bomet County MP) and several Members of the Nyamira County Assembly.

Their presence affirmed strong cross-party support for initiatives aimed at uplifting women and promoting unity across Kenya’s diverse regions.
