Police officers from Matungu Police Station in Kakamega town have arrested one suspected drug trafficker along Matungu-Busia road and seized suspected narcotic drugs during a routine patrol in the area on Sunday 22nd June 2025.

According to a police statement, a brown briefcase suspected to carry cannabis sativa was found in the suspect’s vehicle at Matungu Market after it had been stopped for a search.

“During the search, officers discovered a brown briefcase containing two polythene-wrapped packages. Upon inspection, the packages were found to hold a dry, leafy substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa,” read part of the Police statement.

The Police immediately apprehended the suspect after conduction of the vehicle search as investigation continues to determine the motive and whether he is part of a large drug syndicate.

“The suspect was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody, pending arraignment. The exhibits have been secured as evidence at the same facility,” said the police.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the country.

“National Police Service (NPS) remains committed to combating drug trafficking and related crimes through intelligence-led operations and enhanced patrols, with the aim of dismantling criminal networks involved in the distribution of illicit substances,” the statement concluded.

The suspect is set to be arraigned in court.
