The death of Beth Wahito Njoroge, a fourth-term nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Nyandarua, has sent waves of grief across the country. Her sudden passing has not only plunged her family and the Nyandarua County Assembly into mourning but has also drawn heartfelt tributes from leaders at both county and national levels.
Wahito was killed in an accident while exiting Naivasha town and attempting to join a highway according to Naivasha Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), Isaac Kiama.
Hon. Beth Njoroge was widely known for her vocal advocacy for health reforms, women’s rights, and youth empowerment. Her active role in the assembly and her connection with the grassroots had made her a respected figure within Nyandarua and beyond. As news of her death spread, messages of condolence flooded in from across the political divide.
President William Ruto was among the first national leaders to express his sorrow, describing her as “a solid grassroots mobiliser and a steadfast UDA supporter” In a statement shared on his X account, President Ruto said, “We join the family and the people of Nyandarua County in mourning the passing of Mheshimiwa Beth Wahito, Beth will best be remembered for the many fresh ideas that transformed the lives of the people of Njabini.”
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in his condolences stated that “Wahito will be remembered for her relentless dedication to the economic empowerment of the people of Njabini from where she hailed.”
Former Deputy President and now DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua termed the MCA’s death as one that “leaves a big gap in society” He stated, “It is through the leadership of great patriots like Hon. Wahito that we draw great lessons of humility, handwork, commitment, passion, and humility. I pass my deepest sympathies to her immediate family, friends, Nyandarua County Assembly, and the great people of Nyandarua.”
Back in Nyandarua, Majority Leader in County Assembly, Mwangi Nyaga hailed Wahito’s handwork underscoring her commitment in various county Assembly committees she served in.
“As a county, we have lost one of the most dedicated MCAs and on behalf of the assembly, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family,” said Nyaga.
Political colleagues and friends including Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara, Nyandarua MCA Thuo Gachino also recalled her warm demeanor and fierce dedication to service while paying their tributes
Plans for a public memorial and burial are underway, with dates to be announced in consultation with the family. Meanwhile as the mourning continues, there have been renewed calls for better road safety measures, citing the increasing number of lives lost in preventable road accidents.
