More than 50 individuals have been arrested in Kakamega town over allegations of vandalism and attempted looting during the June 25, 2025 protests.
Western Region Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects who were apprehended while attempting to break into local businesses and damaging public property, including smashing the windows of a police vehicle will be arraigned in court on June 26.
However, police have maintained that no successful looting took place and no injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, Commander Mohamud issued a stern warning to a group reportedly planning to stage further protests later.
He emphasized that the official protest window ended at 2:00 PM on Wednesday and warned that anyone engaging in demonstrations beyond that time will be treated as criminals and dealt with accordingly.
The protests, organized by a section of youth under the Gen Z banner, began peacefully but later descended into chaos, prompting swift action by law enforcement officers.
