A police officer has been arrested after allegedly shooting dead his romantic partner and a bar patron in a suspected fit of jealousy at Kokwet Pub in Juakali Centre, Turbo Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.
The officer, identified as PC Erick Kirui of Tembelio Police Station, is said to have stormed the bar, owned by his partner, Caroline Malakwen, while heavily intoxicated and armed with an AK-47 rifle issued for night duty. Witnesses say Kirui confronted Malakwen before turning the weapon on her and a male patron, Ignatius Kipchumba alias Mwala, killing both on the spot.
A third person, Antony Stephen Mbifa, was injured during the incident and he is currently receiving treatment .
According to a police report, Kirui was arrested while attempting to flee and disarmed. Police say he had taken a boda boda to reach the bar. The shooting is believed to have been driven by jealousy and a domestic dispute.
The bodies were moved to MTRH mortuary in Eldoret, and investigations are ongoing
