In a dramatic letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja Kirocho, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged ongoing threats to his life, linking the attacks to a high-level conspiracy involving state security agencies.

The letter, dated April 15, 2025, highlights alleged assassination attempts, withdrawal of security detail and violent attacks believed to be politically motivated.

“You withdrew my security in a clear thought-out scheme and backward conspiracy to make me vulnerable to organized criminal gangs,” reads the letter. The former official accuses police and other security agencies of colluding with the attackers.

He cited a specific incident on November 28, 2024, during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, where he claims he was attacked by criminal gangs. “My vehicles were damaged irreparably, women and children roughed, property destroyed and mourners beaten up as police watched. This was an assassination attempt that failed,” he said.

The former leader reminded the Inspector General of his constitutional duty under Article 245(2)(b) of the Constitution of Kenya to act independently and protect all citizens. “In this case, Mr. Kanja, you are clearly perpetuating crime and violence,” he stated.

He also emphasized his past service as the MP for Mathira Constituency (2017–2022) and later as the 2nd Deputy President from September 2022 until his impeachment in 2024. He described the impeachment as “sham” and based on “flimsy and trumped-up charges.”

The letter concludes with a warning that the matter remains in court and is within public knowledge.
Authorities have not yet issued an official response to the claims. The public awaits clarification from the police and government as concerns over political safety and state accountability intensify.
