Six suspects are set to be arraigned at the Embu Law Courts on Monday,June, 30, 2025 after they were arrested in connection with looting and destruction on property during the Wednesday, June, 25,2025 Gen Z led protests meant to commemorate 2024 anti-finance bill protests.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects identified as Peter Mugane Kuria, 22, Ian Macharia Wangare, 19, Joseph Musila Mugo, 45, Maxwell Wafula Ongae, 28, Jackson Njagi, 29, and Brian Mbuvi, 26, were arrested during an ongoing crackdown targeting individuals who took advantage of the protests to steal and destroy property.
The DCI also confirmed recovery of several stolen goods during different raids at the suspects homes and hideouts. For instance a stolen washing machine was discovered at the home of Joseph Musila while a number of retail products were found at Maxwell Wafula’s home.
Meanwhile another suspect, Jackson Njagi, was arrested after police recovered bottles of stolen whisky and a bunch of steel wire from his premises.
Electronic apparatus including a television set, two desktop computers, cables among other clothings were found in Brian Mbuvi’s custody after he was cornederd at Downtown Guest House.
The suspects are currently in police custody pending their arraignment on Monday June 30 2025
“The suspects have been placed in custody pending arraignment at Embu Law Courts on Monday, June 30,” the DCI said in a statement.
This follows another arrest of seven suspects by Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County and recovery of several weapons and items stolen during the June 25 protests highlighting the Police’s efforts across the country to bring to justice those committed these crimes.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue volunteering information that could lead to the recovery of more stolen property and the arrest of other culprits involved in the mayhem.
