Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has criticized the government for neglecting the voices of the younger generation, warning that silencing youth will only derail the country’s future.

Matiang’i who jetted back to the country recently to officially kick off his 2027 Presidential ambition was speaking during a Sunday church service on 29th June, at PCEA Thika Town Church in Kiambu.

The former CS challenged the Kenya Kwanza government and other national national leaders to stop what he termed as “sidelining young people” and instead give them room to express their ideas, concerns, and aspirations.

“We should give an opportunity to our children to speak out and not contest their voices,” Matiang’i said, in remarks clearly aimed at government leadership.

While acknowledging the role homes and churches play in the laying of youth foundation, the Ex-CS pointed out that the government must lead by example in nurturing and protecting the voices of the next generation — not suppress them for political convenience.

Matiang’i noted that the youth’s voices are essential in driving the nation forward as they form majority of the population. His brief but pointed statement comes as part of a larger homily on parenting and youth mentorship.
