Missing blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia is safe. According to his family Ndiang’ui is in hiding at an undisclosed location fearing arrest from the Director of Criminal Investigations. Speaking on behalf of the family, Lawyer Wahome Thuku confirmed that Ndiang’ui, who disappeared last week, reached out to a family member on the evening of Tuesday June 2, and assured them that he is well and in good health.
According to the statement, Ndiangui said he went into hiding after learning that officers from the the DCI were pursuing him over unspecified criminal allegation. Fearing for his life, he chose to stay out of sight temporarily.
“Mr. Ndiangui has indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and appear before any court of law once his safety and security is guaranteed,” the statement read in part.
The family says they have advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The Law Society of Kenya has also been notified of the development and will be involved in presenting the matter in court.
”We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today, Thursday the 3rd July 2025 at 11am. This information has been duly communicated to the Law Society of Kenya for analysis and presentation in court.” The statement read
They also allege that DCI officers broke into Ndiangui’s house during his absence and confiscated several items, a matter they reported at the Kinoo Police Station.
On Tuesday High Court Judge Chacha Mwita, directed DCI Boss, Mohammed Amin Amin and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, to present themselves in person to explain the whereabouts of Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who had been missing since June 21.
In his ruling, Justice Mwita expressed concern over the state’s handling of the case, noting that detectives were reportedly the last individuals seen at Kinyagia’s residence in Kinoo before his disappearance.
The judge emphasised that the DCI bears the responsibility of informing the court of Kinyagia’s whereabouts and should produce him, dead or alive.
The DCI maintained that Kinyagia, who is a person of interest for allegedly publishing inflammatory material, is not in the custody of the National Police Service (NPS).
