Kenya’s Harambee Stars will take part in the CECAFA Four Nations Cup in Tanzania later this month as they step up their preparations for the upcoming Aug 2, 2025 to Aug 30, 2025 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The four nations tournament comprising hosts Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan will commence on July 24 and end of 27th July 2025.

In the first match on 24th July 2025, Kenya will face regional rivals Uganda and hosts Tanzania in a tight schedule designed to test the team’s readiness for continental action.

Kenya’s first match will be against Uganda on Thursday, July 24 at 1:00 pm at Karatu Stadium, before taking on Tanzania at the same venue later that day at 4:00 pm.

The top teams will battle it out in the final set for July 27 at Karatu Stadium. The CECAFA Four Nations Cup presents an ideal opportunity for the technical bench led by new head coach Benni McCarthy to fine-tune the squad, try out new combinations, and address any tactical weaknesses ahead of CHAN.

The tournament’s two matches in a day will test the players’ fitness levels, their mental resilience, adaptability, and depth of the squad.

This will give the technical team a clearer picture of areas that need improvement as they head into CHAN, where the stakes will be much higher.

Additionally, the matches will help build cohesion among the locally based players who form the core of the CHAN squad.

Since CHAN is reserved for players who ply their trade in their respective domestic leagues, the CECAFA competition offers a perfect platform for the Kenyan-based stars to gel under match conditions that mirror what they will face at CHAN.

Kenya hopes to go beyond the group stages and make a significant impact on the continental stage in the upcoming CHAN competition.

As the Harambee Stars head to Tanzania, fans will be keenly watching how the team performs, with the hope that the experience gained will translate into success when the continental tournament kicks off in August.
