Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau has clapped back at a section of leaders allied to the opposition for insults directed at her during the burial of MCA Beth Wahito in Kinangop.
Speaking in Mirangine town in Ol Kalou Constituency on Wednesday 3, 2025, as she engaged men in a mentorship program, Gitau said it is uncalled for some self-proclaimed kingpins of the Mt. Kenya region to utter insults to elected leaders using vulgar language.
Her sentiments come a few days after some opposition leaders launched an attack on her by calling her names that has ignited anger amongst her supporters and fellow women leaders.
‘’Nyandarua people are sober; they woke up and elected their leaders without coercion. It is unfortunate that some outsiders now want to incite our people and impose leaders on them; we will not allow that.’’ Gitau said,
Gitau, in what is perceived as a direct reply to the remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urged residents of Nyandarua not to allow people from other regions to come to their county, insult their leaders, incite youths, and try to impose leaders on them.
She challenged the opposition wing to stop misleading Kenyans and instead focus on key issues they would want to deliver to Kenyans.
Gitau observed empty rhetoric would not help in pushing for their agenda and instead urged them to conduct their campaigns based on their development records while they were still in power.
She further challenged residents from Nyandarua to unite and support credible leaders who have shown their performance in the positions they have held before.
She condemned destruction witnessed on 25th June during the Gen Z Anniversary, calling out leaders to shun politics of incitement, as many youths are victims of bad politics, and that Nyandarua County is not a place for them to cause mayhem, whereas in their regions, there is calm.
Elsewhere Residents of Ngurani, Nyandarua County, have come out asking for Ex. DP Gachagua to apologize to them for attacking their leaders and hurling insults, which to them is like attacking the ones who voted for the said leaders.
“We are tired of some leaders led by Rigathi Gachagua coming to our county, more so in burial ceremonies, and instead of condoling with the family of the bereaved, he uses that podium to incite and hurl insults,” one resident, Wachira Murage, said.
They have added that it is sad to see a leader like Gachagua using church podiums and burial ceremonies to continue inciting people against leaders who do not subscribe to his ideology by saying that despite him having not brought any development to Nyandarua County when he was the Deputy President, he is now at the forefront of fighting them.
“Sisi kama watu wa Nyandarua tunakemea vikali matamshi hayo kwa kuwa alionyesha madharau sio tu kwa viongozi wetu bali pia kwa wana Nyandarua wote haswa sisi akina mama,” added another resident
They have vowed not to be cowed by his utterances and incitement, saying that during the 2027 elections they will only consider leaders who have brought developments in their areas, noting that many leaders only rely on parties to get votes with no intentions of working for Kenyans.
