Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that some leaders allied to the government side are planning to disrupt the Sabasaba commemoration slated for Monga, July 7, 2025.

Speaking in Mathira during the burial of his aunt, Gladys Gathoni, Gachagua claimed that the area MP was meeting some ‘goons’ in one of the hotels in Sagana, planning how to cause chaos and blame it on the opposition. Gachagua even claimed that the meeting was under police protection.

“Saa hii tunaongea, saa hii ile mikutano inapangwa kuja kuhangaisha watu hapa Nyeri, na huyu mjumbe wa hapa wanakutana, mkutano inaendelea saa hii na polisi wako hapo na goons wanapanga vile wanakuja kuchoma mali ya watu halafu wakuje kushika watoto wetu uwawekelea,” said Gachagua.

The DCP leader asked the youth to go and disrupt the meeting, claiming they are the ones who will be arrested if they did not stand up for themselves.

“Sisi tunaambia hao vijana wako huko wakimbie pale Sagana, watoe hao watu mbio,” said Gachagua.

He blamed the government for allowing what he termed as ‘goons’ to take over, saying, “It is very sad, ati mahali hii serikali imefika, that we are governed by goons.”

He said he was given the information by some Gen-Z youth in the area about the reportedly orchestrated plans to cause chaos on Monday, July 7, during Sabasaba.

At the same time, Gachagua said there are some young people who have been arrested from the Central region and are being held incommunicado. According to Gachagua, the two young men are being tortured to force them to give false information about opposition leaders from Mount Kenya.

He claimed there are plans to charge them with terrorism charges on Monday, July 7, at the anti-terrorism court, asking senior lawyers Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua to defend them.

“Mimi nataka kuwaomba nyinyi Senior Counsel Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka, hao vijana wakifikishwa kortini Jumatatu, naomba mjitokeze; unajua mkionekana pale hiyo itatusaidia,” said Gachagua.
