Athletics Kenya (AK) has nominated two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge for the position of Athlete Representative at the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K). The nomination recognizes Kipchoge’s exceptional athletic career, spanning over two decades, and his contributions as an ambassador for Kenyan athletics.

Kipchoge’s achievements include five Olympic Games appearances, the most of any Kenyan athlete, and four Olympic medals, including marathon gold at the 2016 and 2020 Games. Beyond the Olympics, he has consistently represented Kenya on the global stage, achieving numerous accolades across track, cross country, and road racing events.

Athletics Kenya president Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei praised Kipchoge as “not just an incredible athlete but a beacon of athletics in our country.” He highlighted Kipchoge’s dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment, citing his achievements, from early track success to becoming the only person to run a marathon in under two hours.

Tuwei also emphasized Kipchoge’s efforts to enhance education through the establishment of a library and his ambassadorial work, showcasing his desire to contribute to the greater good. AK believes that his commitment to athlete welfare, education, and advocacy for clean sport makes him an ideal candidate to advocate for athletes’ rights within the NOC-K.

Kipchoge expressed his gratitude for the nomination and pledged to work tirelessly to represent the interests of athletes from all federations. He emphasized his commitment to advocating for athletes’ education, empowerment, and holistic well-being.

“I want to include every athlete in every federation for his or her own voice or to be heard in matters education, in matters empowerment, in matters holistic living,” Kipchoge said.

Kipchoge will be joined by national women’s rugby 7s team captain Grace Okulu, who will represent female athletes. His nomination is seen as a significant step towards ensuring athlete representation and advocacy within the NOC-K.
