At least 11 died during Monday’s Saba Saba demonstrations across the country.
In a statement issued late Monday the National Police Service said the deaths occurred in what it described as violent incidents involving looting, destruction of property, and attacks on law enforcement officers.
Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, said11 civilians and 52 police officers were injured during Saba Saba demonstrations.
The protests also left a trail of destruction as12 police vehicles, 3 government vehicles, and 4 civilian vehicles were damaged during the unrest.
Police say 567 people were arrested, among them Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji as Investigations into each incident are ongoing.
The NPS maintains that its officers exercised “exceptional restraint” despite what it termed sustained provocation, and has urged the public to share any information about individuals who may still be at large through official channels.
The police have pledged to thoroughly investigate all reported cases and bring those responsible to justice.
