The Senate is set to begin a two-day impeachment trial of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo.

The Senate rejected a motion to establish an 11-member special committee to investigate the allegations against Governor Guyo instead opted for a full plenary trial.

On June 26, 2025 16 out of 18 MCAs voted to impeach Governor Guyo.

He is accused of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violations of the Constitution and other laws.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi gazetted Tuesday and Wednesday July 8 and 9, 2025 as the official sitting days to consider the resolution by the Isiolo County Assembly, which passed the impeachment motion in June.

According to the Senate Order Paper for Tuesday, the hearing will begin at 9 am with a closed-door pre-hearing meeting for senators.

The House will then proceed with preliminary matters at 10 am, including a recital of the Senate’s constitutional mandate, rules of procedure, and the hearing programme.

This will be followed by the formal introduction of the Members of the Isiolo County Assembly and their legal team, and the introduction of Governor Guyo and his legal representatives.
