Two officials from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) in Kirinyaga County were released on bail after their arrest on charges of bribery. The bribe was reportedly given to influence the payment of goods worth Kshs. 2.77 million.
Mr. Ephraim Maina, the NGAAF Chairman, and Ms. Abigael Wambua, the County Coordinator, were apprehended on 18th July 2025 for allegedly receiving a bribe of Kshs. 60,000 from representatives of Jererukizma Holdings Ltd.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the officials had initially demanded Kshs. 270,000 in exchange for facilitating the payment. Meanwhile the commission has expressed its firm stance on tackling corruption in public service.
“EACC remains committed to fighting corruption and upholding integrity in public service.” read part of the commission’s statement.
According to EACC, the suspects were processed at the EACC Central Regional Offices in Nyeri, after which they were released on a cash bail of Kshs. 100,000 each, pending their appearance before the Kerugoya Anti-Corruption Court.

The third suspect in the case, Mr. Lawrence Kaara, the NGAAF Procurement Officer, remains at large. EACC has instructed him to report to their Central Region offices by Monday.
This arrest comes amid increasing efforts by EACC to investigate and curb corruption within government agencies. The commission remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure accountability in public offices.
