Detectives have arrested another suspect in connection with the tragic shooting of the late Member of Parliament for Kasipul Charles Ong’ondo Were. Amos Barasa Kasili wa arrested in Kibera Darajani and he is linked to the fatal shooting of the late Kasipul MP, which occurred on April 30, 2025. His arrest follows a thorough, intelligence-led operation that connected him to the key suspects and placed him at the crime scene during the fateful attack.
Barasa, who was identified as the rider of the getaway motorcycle used by the assailants, had been trailing the MP’s vehicle before the shooting and later used the motorcycle to flee the scene. The motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W, was recovered by police during the arrest, confirming his role in the crime.
Further investigations into Barasa’s background revealed that, he is a habitual criminal who poses as a Boda Boda operator. Police say he has frequently collaborated with armed criminal gangs in their illegal operations. During his interrogation, Barasa admitted to his involvement in the shooting, disclosing that he had been hired by the main perpetrators and paid Ksh. 50,000 for his role in the attack.
The motorcycle recovered from Barasa matches the description of the vehicle seen in CCTV footage near Parliament shortly before the incident, trailing the MP’s car.
Barasa’s criminal history also surfaced during the investigation. He had previously served time at Industrial Area Prison, where he came into contact with some of the individuals involved in the murder of the late Were.
Currently, the suspect is in custody and is being processed for arraignment, with investigations ongoing. Authorities remain committed to ensuring that justice is served for the brutal murder of Hon.
