The murder trial of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to continue today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the High Court in Nairobi. The proceedings will feature testimony from Michael Oyamo, Obado’s former personal assistant and a co-accused in the case.

This development follows Justice Cecilia Githua’s recent ruling, which denied Oyamo’s request to have his witnesses testify before him. The judge emphasized that, under Kenyan law, an accused individual must first present their own defense before calling witnesses. Oyamo had cited the unavailability of crucial call data records from Safaricom as a reason for his request, but the court maintained that the standard legal procedure must be followed.

Obado, Oyamo and a third accused, Caspal Obiero, have all pleaded not guilty to the charges. In his recent testimony, Obado acknowledged having a romantic relationship with Sharon but firmly denied any involvement in her murder, stating, “I did not kill Sharon Otieno. I did not conspire with my two co-accused persons or anyone to kill the late Sharon Otieno.

As the trial progresses, the court will hear from Oyamo and subsequently from Obiero, providing further insights into the circumstances surrounding Sharon Otieno’s tragic death.

Sharon Otieno, a Rongo University student who was seven months pregnant, was killed in 2018, and her body was discovered in Homa Bay County.
